Penstemon deustus

I was outside making videos again at the weekend.  Right now is the peak of Penstemon season.  Penstemon deustus was common south of Fossil.  The plants looked very healthy, although close up you can see the flowers showing signs of deterioration.

These plants grow well in the garden here in Gilliam County, where they grow to a larger size and self propagate at will.

After consulting my limited library and deliberating over the variety, I decided that this is var. variabilis.  But this is just a guess.
